#1. The foot (treadle) valve

Controls the air pressure applied to the brakes.

Should be held halfway down during normal driving.

Controls the speed of the air compressor.

Is connected to the brake chambers by rods and linkages.

The foot valve is located underneath the brake pedal. When you press the brake pedal, compressed air from the foot valve will flow through the lines and valves of the air brake system. When compressed air reaches the brake chambers, it activates the service brakes.
